My creative practice…

My inspiration for most of my work is nature, but more specifically its the sun. Rise or setting, I can't imagine anything more peaceful than experiencing that!  When I do get to catch a sunset or rise, it's as if the sun is challenging me, 'try and paint this one.'   My artistic practice keeps me in the present moment. Moments to study every detail of what's around me. Through my painting I am able to process my  dreams, memories, and my perceptions of the world around me.

My paintings lean towards contemporary realism.  I paint from furthest away to the nearest using as many details as I can to achieve realism.   I like to use the traditional under-painting technique in my work except for the skies.  I leave the skies white, so when I apply the color to the white canvas it is at its brightest quality. While painting the skies, I use the wet-on wet technique. With the wet-on-wet technique, I can blend the clouds to achieve a realistic softness. Toward the horizon line I tend to go back to the traditional under-painting techniques. Which creates more depth and contrast with the many layers.

I am humbled by landscapes when I paint them. I create a portrayal of what God has already created. He gets the glory for the beauty in my paintings as well as for my talent. I hone in on that talent and sharpen my skill by finding my inspiration in nature around me. I take the time to study every landscape, every detail: shadows, shapes, lines, colors, and angles. I take this knowledge and inspiration into my practice.
